Preventing Weight Gain Seen In Aging.
As you grow older, you may notice that you’ve added a bit of a spare tyre around your midsection. Or maybe you’ve added more than one spare tyre. Although some weight gain is normal as you age, there are several ways to prevent this weight gain seen in ageing for those who want to stay trim and fit for years to come.
Sit Less
The way this world works, people just generally become more sedentary as they get older. And many of them don’t even notice. Put a stop to this and try to be active at every opportunity you can. If you live close to the grocery store, walk there instead of driving. Or if you can, walk or bike to work a couple days a week.
You can also try to be more active in your social life by inviting friends to a yoga class or for a walk in the park instead of a lunch date. And if you have a favorite TV show you like to watch, try to learn to enjoy it while doing something active like yoga, or maybe even just having it on in the background while you do chores.

Track Your Steps
If you aren’t sure just how active you are being or if you are sitting too much, this may be the time to invest in a pedometer. This device will let you know how many steps you take in a day. And for those who have a fancy smart watch or Fitbit, it can also let you know when you need to spend more time standing, and how many calories you are expending versus the amount you are taking in.
Cook At Home
As you age, your metabolism will experience a natural decline. Even though this is a natural part of ageing, it does mean that you can’t eat the same diet you may have grown accustomed to eating. In fact you will likely need to reduce your caloric intake in order to prevent weight gain from occurring.
And one of the best ways to do this is by reducing the number of times you eat out. Eating at restaurants makes it difficult to know just how many calories are consuming, and it is much easier to control your portion size when you eat at home. Make it an effort to cook healthy meals at home most days of the week only eating out when it is a special occasion.
Change Your Diet
Speaking of eating at home, it’s also probably time to shift your diet if you aren’t already eating healthy. As you age you should aim to eat more fruits and vegetables and less processed foods like chips and cookies. And if you are worried about weight gain, then you definitely should consult a nutritionist to help you to design a diet that is healthy and right for your body.
Beyond just changing what you eat, you may also need to change when you eat as well. Late night snacks and having your big meal in the evening can be difficult on your metabolism. Try instead to have your big meal at the middle of the day, and something lighter later on, just make sure that you are completely done consuming food by about 7 in the evening for best results.
Overall, preventing the weight gain that comes with ageing isn’t always easy. But if you start monitoring your steps, how much you sit, and your diet, you may find that keeping yourself fit in your later years isn’t as difficult as you originally thought.
